Hyundai Eon Design
The Eon’s dimensions are nearly identical to the Alto’s, but in terms of styling, it is in a whole different league. Hyundai’s Fluidic Sculpture design language has been brilliantly executed, surfacing is technical and there are a whole host of light-catching creases and lines on the Eon that you just wouldn’t expect on a car this size. Up front, the car resembles other Hyundais thanks to its smart hexagonal grille and large swept-back headlamps.
The front bumper has neat recesses for the fog lamps and flows seamlessly into the large wheel arches. The wheels feature smart covers that make them look like alloys. From the side, your attention will be drawn to the bold character line that kinks upwards toward the tail-light. The rear wheel arches are quite pronounced too, but make the rear wheels look small. Rear-end styling is smart with a large windscreen and distinctive crescent-shaped tail-lamps. Shut lines are tight, paint quality is quite good and the build quality is acceptable for a car of this class.
Hyundai Eon Cabin
To give a contemporary looking cabin in small/budget cars has always been a challenge for manufacturers. But Hyundai has tried its level best to ensure Eon’s interiors measure up in the segment. The car is bit plasticity inside but the overall execution in terms of fit and finish and visual appeal is appreciable. The budget-conscious folks will not find any reasons to complain in terms of fabrics used in seats and door trims.Four average adults can comfortably sit in but will be definitely a squeezing affair if the fifth one comes into the picture. The car offers a lot of storage spaces to store those knick-knacks. The dual tone beige and grey color scheme, as well as the seats, compliments the practical proportions of the car. The boot space is adequate enough to carry a small family’s average holiday luggage.
The mid variants come loaded with an audio system that gels well with the multilayered dash. Move on to the top model such as Sports Edition and you will get 6.2-inch touchscreen AVN system. The infotainment can be paired to your smartphone and is powered by 2 speakers placed in the door panels. This seems to be an attempt to counter rival Renault Kwid. Other comfort features included in the car are power windows, internally adjustable ORVM, bench folding rear seats, rear parcel tray and remote fuel lid opener.
Hyundai Eon Performance
The new Hyundai Eon will get a 800cc engine and a 1.0-litre engine as well. These engines will come mated to a five-speed manual transmission. There will be no change in the powertrains. However, this time, Hyundai may get an AMT in the Eon. Competitors like Maruti, Renault and Datsun are offering AMT in their models and Hyundai is the only on left behind. Alo the popularity of AMTs is growing in India. The engines will also be tuned for better performance and improved driveability. The Hyundai Eon 2019 will not see any addition of new engines, except for the addition of AMT. For more info on Hyundai Eon visit Byteintobigdata
The 800cc engine produces 55bhp of power and 76Nm of torque. The 1.0-litre engine churns out 68bhp of power and 94Nm of peak torque. The petrol engine presently has some amounts of vibrations, which can be felt on the gear lever as well. These issues will be resolved in the new Eon.
As an entry level hatchback, the onus of giving good mileage naturally comes upon this car. The small 3-cylinder engine is tuned to give high-fuel efficiency. This makes Hyundai Eon deliver ARAI certified fuel economy of 21.1kmpl. The bigger 1.0L engine returns 20.3kmpl which is slightly lower but still high on mileage.
Hyundai Eon Riding
One of the Eon’s strengths is ride quality. The car uses MacPherson struts in front that work in tandem with a torsion beam suspension at the rear. Despite the small-diameter wheels, ride is very absorbent. Slightly firm springs and a long wheelbase also serve to give the Eon good straightline stability on the highway. Handling is good as well, helped largely by the Eon’s very direct EPS unit. City driving requires little effort, thanks to the Eon’s tight turning circle. However, the steering lacks any sort of self-centering action and this can be a concern at highway speeds.
Hyundai Eon Safety
Hyundai has the best in class braking capability and it is really surprising. The car has a good bite force and comes to halt without and fuss and side movements. In terms of safety, the carmaker has given a reinforced body structure to counter huge force generated on impact. Other than that, you get driver side airbag, front fog lamps, engine immobilizer, central locking, child safety rear door locks, and remote keyless entry.

It may not have the space of the Tata Nano or power of the K10, but it does tempt you with its combination of attractive styling, well-built interiors and the promise of great fuel economy. The light controls also make it appealing to first-time car owners. Then there is the reassurance of Hyundai’s wide service network. Most importantly, the Eon is a budget car that you want to buy. Maruti should be very worried.
The small hatch is basically available in 7 different variants.
